Today, On 12th February, The Calcutta High Court has said that the RG Kar Hospital financial irregularities case should be handled quickly to keep people’s trust in the courts. This case was filed soon after the rape and murder of a junior doctor at the hospital, which shocked the entire country. The court warned that delayed justice could make people lose faith in the legal system. It has asked the authorities to conduct a fair and fast investigation into the matter.
CJI Chandrachud Today (Sept 6) dismissed the plea of Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, challenging a Calcutta High Court order. Ghosh had sought to intervene in a public interest litigation (PIL) that alleges financial irregularities at the college during his tenure. The CJI ruled that, as an accused individual, Ghosh does not have the legal standing to join the PIL, particularly because the High Court is already supervising the investigation into the allegations.
Today, On 4th September, Former RG Kar Medical College head, Sandip Ghosh, has contested a High Court decision to transfer a graft investigation against him to the CBI. The case involves alleged financial irregularities at Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital, and has also led to increased scrutiny of hospital administration. Ghosh’s arrest marks the second significant one at the hospital since August 9.
Today, On 23rd August, The Calcutta High Court transferred the investigation into financial irregularities at RG Kar Hospital from the state’s SIT to the CBI, emphasizing the need for a thorough and impartial probe. Concerns were raised about potential delays and inefficiencies in having multiple agencies involved. The court also questioned the delay in forming the SIT and approved polygraph tests on individuals involved in recent criminal activities.
