The colonial legacy of long summer vacations continues in the Supreme Court, but for the first time a record 20 benches were set up during the nearly two-month-long break this year and exhausted the list of cases to be taken up during this period with the consent of counsel for parties.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Monday that justice would be delivered up to the level of the Supreme Court in all cases within three years of the registration of an FIR under the new criminal laws. Addressing a press conference after the new criminal laws were implemented, Shah expressed hope of a reduction of crime in future as 90 per cent conviction was expected under the new laws.
The Delhi High Court Today (May 29th) announced that it will hear the cases of litigants and lawyers with disability on a priority basis. Cases of persons with disabilities will also be given preference.
In a groundbreaking move, the Supreme Court of India will conduct its first-ever National Lok Adalat, set to run from July 29 to August 3. This initiative aims to expedite the resolution of pending cases through reconciliation and reduce the judicial backlog.
Today(on 8th April), The Calcutta High Court has mandated the state to submit a comprehensive report on cases involving Trinamool leader Arabul Islam by April 16. Arabul’s wife has accused the police of targeting her and escalating legal actions against her. The next hearing for this case is scheduled for April 16. Arabul was arrested on February 8 and faces various charges.
