The Delhi High Court Today (Feb 28) dismissed a petition by Maharaja Karni Singh’s heirs seeking rent arrears for Bikaner House from 1991-2014. The Court ruled that ex gratia payments are not a legal right.
The Patiala House Court Today (Nov 29) granted a conditional stay on the attachment of Delhi’s Bikaner House, an immovable property owned by the Nagar Palika of Nokha, Rajasthan. District Judge Vidya Prakash issued the stay on the condition that dues owed by the Nagar Palika related to an arbitral award are deposited within a week.
Rajasthan is taking measures to protect Bikaner House in Delhi after a court’s attachment order linked to a Rs. 50 crore recovery due to Enviro Infra Engineers. The state has appointed a senior lawyer to seek a stay, citing the property’s cultural significance and the need to address previous legal negligence.
A Delhi court ordered the attachment of Bikaner House, owned by the Nokha municipal council, for failing to pay a Rs 50.31 lakh arbitral award to Enviro Infra Engineers Private Limited. The award became final after the council’s appeal was dismissed. The council cannot transfer the property until further notice.
