Today, On 1st August, Supreme Court asked BJP leader Rajiv Babbar to withdraw his defamation case against Shashi Tharoor over the ‘scorpion’ remark, saying, “Why get so touchy? Judges and administrators have thick skin.”

This decision came after the complainant’s lawyer requested additional time to submit a counter-affidavit. The case remains pending until further developments. Today, On 9th September, Shashi Tharoor challenged a trial court’s summons in a defamation case related to his remark comparing PM Narendra Modi to a scorpion. The Supreme Court, led by CJI DY Chandrachud, assured Tharoor’s counsel that the plea for an urgent hearing would be considered. BJP leader Rajiv Babbar filed the defamation case, claiming the remark hurt Hindu sentiments.
The Delhi High Court today rejected Shashi Tharoor’s request to dismiss a criminal defamation case for comparing PM Modi to a scorpion. The court also lifted the interim order, directing the parties to appear before the trial court on September 10. Tharoor’s legal team argued that he was simply quoting someone else and that the complaint was baseless and frivolous.
