Today, On 19th July, The Supreme Court requested a response from the Punjab government regarding a petition disputing the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s order to remove protesters from YPS Chowk. The petition, filed by ‘Kaumi Insaaf Morcha,’ seeks to halt the enforcement of the order, highlighting demands for the release of Sikh political prisoners and expedited trials.
The Supreme Court stayed the removal of protestors from the Chandigarh-Mohali road, providing reprieve to protesting farmers. The legal debate regarding protestor rights and public order continues. The protests are led by the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha seeking MSP guarantee, debt write-offs, and pension for elderly farmers. The protests have led to road blockages and legal disputes.
