Today, On 6th March, The Bombay High Court upheld the arrest of Sachin Waze in the Antilia bomb scare case. Waze was taken into custody by the NIA in March 2021 for allegedly placing an explosives-laden vehicle near Mukesh Ambani’s residence. The court rejected his plea against the arrest.
Today, On 3rd December, the Supreme Court imposed a Rs. 50,000 cost on the Central Government for appealing a widow’s pension rights following her soldier husband’s death. The court criticized the appeal as frivolous and detrimental, emphasizing the need for compassion towards armed forces families. The widow’s pension rights were upheld, reinforcing social justice.
D.Y. Chandrachud, the current Chief Justice of India, will retire on November 10, 2024, after a two-year term. Subsequent Chief Justices include Justices J.B. Pardiwala and Surya Kant, with most serving less than two years. The upcoming CJIs will handle significant cases and ensure representation within the judiciary until 2031.
The Orissa High Court criticized the CRPF for dismissing a constable who attempted suicide, highlighting the immense pressure faced by armed forces. The Court criticized the Coast Guard for not complying with directives and emphasized women’s capability to serve in defense roles, advocating for equal opportunities.
