New Delhi, January 21, 2025 – Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya will be sworn in as the new Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court today. The ceremony will take place at 5:00 PM at Raj Niwas, Civil Lines, Delhi. It will be attended by key government officials, sitting judges, legal professionals, and other dignitaries.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting approving the appointment of former Chief Justice Dhananjaya Chandrachud as the new Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). A notification will be issued soon. Vijaya Bharathi Sayani currently acts as Chairperson following Chandrachud’s retirement on November 8.
Delhi High Court’s Chief Justice Manmohan sworn in Today (Dec 5) as a judge of the Supreme Court of India under the cloud of controversial senior advocate designations. The Supreme Court Collegium, which comprises Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna and Justices B.R. Gavai, Surya Kant, Hrishkesh Roy and Abay S. Oka, had made a recommendation to elevate Justice Manmohan to the Supreme Court on November 28, 2024.

This has resulted in the cancellation of his daily 10-kilometer morning walks and limits on his mobility, as he prioritizes security while maintaining connections with old friends.
The Jharkhand government petitioned the Supreme Court over the Central government’s delay in approving the appointment of a new Chief Justice for the state’s High Court. The Central Government today appointed former Madras High Court judge, Justice PN Prakash, as the Special Public Prosecutor for NIA cases before the Supreme Court.
