The Allahabad High Court summoned Agra police officials for placing a 70-year-old lawyer under house arrest during an administrative judge’s visit, questioning the legality of the action and demanding explanations.
Allahabad: Today, 27th Feb, The Allahabad High Court instructed the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to inspect the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal to determine whether it requires whitewashing and painting. This decision came after the mosque management committee sought permission to carry out the maintenance work before Ramzan.
The Supreme Court criticized the Allahabad High Court for passing interim orders in a food distribution case despite the matter being under its review. It set aside all such orders and allowed the Uttar Pradesh government to continue the scheme while ensuring quality.

Today, On 18th December, During hearing on Alt-News Co-founder Mohammed Zubair’s plea, the Allahabad High Court stated, “Whatever Yati Narsinghanand says, you cannot go to social media.” Zubair is challenging an FIR that accuses him of promoting enmity through a post on ‘X.’ The court highlighted the importance of addressing grievances through legal avenues instead of social media. The case focuses on finding a balance between free speech and its potential misuse in inciting public unrest.
CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat on Monday (Dec 9) wrote to Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna demanding action against Allahabad High Court judge Shekhar Kumar Yadav for his comment that the country will function according to the wishes of the majority living here. The All India Lawyers Union also protested against the comments made by Justice Yadav at a meeting organised by the VHP, saying democracy is not majoritarianism or religious majoritarianism and Justice Yadav’s expression and concept of democracy is ‘nothing less than of Hindutva Rashtra’.
The Supreme Court annulled a Rs.1 lakh fine imposed on advocate Mehmood Pracha by the Allahabad High Court, which criticized him for “forum shopping” and attire while representing himself. Pracha’s plea was dismissed by the High Court, deemed to waste the court’s time. The Supreme Court found no basis for the fine.

The Atala mosque, located in Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur, has moved the Allahabad High Court challenging a local court’s May 2024 order that allowed the registration of a suit which claims that the mosque was originally an ancient temple referred to as ‘Atala Devi mandir’. The mosque has challenged a suit pending before a local court in which the plaintiffs have sought a declaration that the disputed property is the ‘Atala Devi Mandir.’ Hearing on Dec 9.
