The legal age for defining `juvenile’ in criminal cases should be lowered to 14 from the current 18 years, Maharashtra deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said Today (Oct 3). Sharad Pawar, a founding member of the NCP, has filed an intervention application in response to a PIL seeking a CBI probe against him and others over a private hill station’s construction. The Bombay High Court has instructed a response within two weeks and will resume the hearing in four weeks. The intervention aims to ensure a fair hearing and prevent repetitive legal proceedings.
Today, the Bombay High Court issued notices to Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar and 10 MLAs associated with Sharad Pawar’s NCP faction in response to petitions challenging the speaker’s decision not to disqualify them. Anil Patil, chief whip of the NCP, filed the petitions disputing the speaker’s ruling and is pushing for the disqualification of the 10 legislators. The matter is set for further hearing on March 14.
