NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court of India on Wednesday (29th Jan) directed hospitals, including AIIMS New Delhi, to regularise the period of absence of doctors who had participated in protests against the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata. The decision came after a doctors’ association pointed out that while some hospitals had regularised the absence based on an earlier court order, others, including AIIMS Delhi, were treating it as leave.
Today, On 8th October, the Calcutta High Court ordered the Central government to upgrade AIIMS Kalyani, West Bengal, to match AIIMS Delhi’s standards. The court emphasized the need for improved medical facilities, especially post-mortem capabilities, in light of the Jaynagar rape case, ensuring rapid cooperation from the state government by December 31, 2025.
A court directed a team from AIIMS Kalyani to conduct the autopsy of a schoolgirl who was raped and murdered in West Bengal. The procedure will take place at Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Hospital and will be supervised by the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate of Baruipur.
