NEW DELHI: On February 6, 2025, the Supreme Court of India postponed the hearing on the bail pleas of advocate Surendra Gadling and activist Jyoti Jagtap, who were arrested in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case. The bench, consisting of Justices M M Sundresh and Rajesh Bindal, also deferred the hearing on a petition filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) challenging the bail granted to activist Mahesh Raut by the Bombay High Court.
Justice Hemant Chandangoudar granted an interim order in response to Nikita’s challenge against her arrest concerning charges of abetting her husband’s suicide. Her lawyer argued the arrest lacked legal grounds. The Karnataka High Court also directed updates to the Supreme Court regarding custody issues linked to Atul Subhash’s family. Further hearings are set for January 6.
The Mumbai Police is seeking murder charges against lawyer Jhanvi Gadkar in a 2015 hit-and-run case. The Public prosecutor argued that Gadkar, being a lawyer, was aware of the consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol but still did so. The incident resulted in the deaths of two individuals. The hearing has been adjourned to October 1.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta today requested adjournment for the bail plea hearing of former TN minister Senthil Balaji. The Supreme Court agreed, rescheduling the matter for July 12. Balaji was arrested by the ED in a money laundering case. The case has faced multiple rejections in lower courts, with the Madras High Court denying his bail petition in February.
