Today, On 4th November, the Chief Justice of India will review a Public Interest Litigation concerning frequent bridge collapses in Bihar, deemed a public safety hazard. The PIL requests a structural audit and formation of an expert panel to ensure bridge safety, following multiple collapses that threaten lives, particularly in flood-prone areas.
Justices BR Gavai, Prashant Kumar Mishra, and KV Viswanathan today summoned Maharashtra’s Rajesh Kumar over contemptuous comments in an affidavit regarding construction on forest land. The Court warned of contempt proceedings and criticized the government’s lack of seriousness. The case relates to compliance with compensatory afforestation levy and recent budgetary sops. Court may halt the Ladki Bahin Yojana.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court directed the governments to form committees for investigating the administration of muafi lands allocated to Hindu and Sikh communities. This came after a petition challenging revenue authorities’ refusal to recognize a temple’s Mohtamim as the landowner. The Court emphasized transparency and accountability in the administration of religious properties.
