The Supreme Court examining a plea by the AAP government alleging non-disbursal of funds. The finance secretary highlighted DJB’s lack of accountability. The court directed the release of funds and scheduled further hearings.
The CJI led bench of Supreme Court Today criticized Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi for refusing to reinstate a DMK leader into the state cabinet despite the court staying his conviction. The court emphasized the governor’s obligation to implement its orders and expressed intent to take serious action if the situation does not improve, adjourning the proceedings to the following day.
CJI Chandrachud today assured the AAP government that it has the authority to release the allocated Rs 3,000 crore for the Delhi Jal Board even after the March 31 deadline. The decision came after the AAP administration urgently petitioned for the release of funds, fearing their potential expiry. The hearing has been scheduled for April 1.
19th March (Tuesday): AAP leader Sanjay Singh told the Supreme Court that he was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case without prior summons. The court scheduled further hearings for April 2. His legal representative argued that his arrest followed a statement by an ED witness in July 2023 without prior intimation. Singh was earlier detained by the ED on October 4 in connection with the case.
Today (19th March): The Governor of Tamil Nadu has declined to appoint K. Ponmudi as a minister due to legal uncertainties. The Supreme Court will review Tamil Nadu’s appeal in Ponmudi’s case following the state government’s challenge of the Governor’s decision. There is tension between the Raj Bhavan and the state government over Ponmudi’s reinstatement.
