A 5-judge Bench Led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud Today (August 7th) expunged the remarks made by Punjab and Haryana High Court judge Justice Rajbir Sehrawat in an order criticising the top court for staying the proceedings in a contempt of court matter. Apex Court said the observations made by Justice Sehrawat were a matter of great concern and ought to be eschewed.
The Supreme Court Yesterday (August 7th) initiated a suo motu case in relation to Punjab Haryana High Court judge Justice Rajbir Sehrawat’s recent order criticising the top court for staying proceedings in a matter pending before his bench. The matter is listed before a five judge bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Justice B.R. Gavai, Justice Surya Kant and Mr. Justice Hrishikesh Roy Today.
The Delhi High Court Today (March 13th) appointed Senior Advocate Gaurav Pachnanda as amicus curiae to help resolve a complex jurisdictional question under the Trade Marks Act, 1999. The 5-judge Bench, led by Acting Chief Justice Manmohan, is addressing the issue of filing cancellation petitions and has enlisted Pachnanda’s expertise. The case is scheduled for further examination in May 2024.
