A Delhi court has referred lawyer Anil Kumar Goswami to the Delhi High Court and Bar Council for his unprofessional conduct during a hearing related to the 2020 Northeast Delhi riots. The judge was offended by Goswami’s disrespectful remarks and lack of preparation, raising concerns about his professionalism and intentions in court.
The National Alliance for Justice, Accountability, and Rights (NAJAR) urged the Supreme Court and Delhi High Court to expedite bail hearings for the “equal citizenship” cases (FIR 59/2020) related to the 2020 Northeast Delhi riots. They requested all bail applications to be resolved within two weeks, criticizing the delays and advocating for appropriate compensation for the accused and their families.
Today, 15th April, The Delhi High Court asked the Enforcement Directorate to provide evidence supporting Tahir Hussain’s plea to dismiss the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) case related to the 2020 riots. The court reviewing the maintainability of the plea and scheduled the hearing for September. Hussain’s lawyer will also be allowed to file a response.
During a hearing related to the 2020 northeast Delhi riots, the court received a distressing letter from the DLSA Secretary, promptly forwarding it to the DCP for urgent action. The court had previously expressed disappointment over delays in preparing the victim impact report and issued reminders. Specific procedures are in place for preparing these reports, and the court is taking proactive measures to ensure timely submission. The matter will proceed on April 20.
