The police opposed the plea, arguing that the right to contest elections is not a fundamental right. Hussain is accused of being the mastermind and funder of the Delhi riots. The High Court has reserved its decision on the matter.

Justice Amit Sharma of the Delhi High Court recused himself from hearing bail pleas related to the 2020 Delhi riots. The matter will be heard by a different bench excluding him, as directed by Justice Prathiba M Singh. This marks the fourth bench to handle the cases, including bail pleas filed by Sharjeel Imam, Meeran Haider, and others.

Despite 750 FIRs being filed, 273 investigations are still pending. The court has demanded a status report within 10 days and emphasized the need for accountability and progress in the tragic events of February 2020.
