Abbas Ansari, former MLA and son of gangster-politician Mukhtar Ansari, was sentenced to two years in jail for hate speech during the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. He is appealing the ruling, and the next hearing is scheduled for June 21, 2025. His conviction has resulted in disqualification from his MLA position.
