Supreme Court Upholds Life Imprisonment for Liquor Vendor in 1999 Murder Case of Anti-Liquor Activist

The Supreme Court on Monday (July 8th) upheld the conviction and life imprisonment of a liquor vendor for murdering an anti-liquor activist in December 1999. The Court held that the prosecution has proven its case against the convict, one Joy Devaraj (convict/appellant), beyond reasonable doubt.

5-Judge Bench of Delhi HC to Review Jurisdiction on Cancellation Petitions under Trade Marks Act

The Delhi High Court Today (March 13th) appointed Senior Advocate Gaurav Pachnanda as amicus curiae to help resolve a complex jurisdictional question under the Trade Marks Act, 1999. The 5-judge Bench, led by Acting Chief Justice Manmohan, is addressing the issue of filing cancellation petitions and has enlisted Pachnanda’s expertise. The case is scheduled for further examination in May 2024.

Delhi High Court Examines Jurisdictional Challenges in Trademarks Act, 1999

The Delhi High Court is examining jurisdictional issues in the Trade Marks Act, 1999, due to the absence of a definition for ‘High Court’. The court has referred the matter to a larger Bench to clarify past decisions’ applicability and determine jurisdiction based on the Trade Mark Registry’s location or the impact of registration.
