New Delhi: The hearing on the Tirupati ladoo matter postponed to tomorrow at 10:30 AM following a request from the Solicitor General.

The adjournment granted to allow for additional time to address the issues involved in the case. This delay comes as both parties prepare for further arguments. The court will reconvene tomorrow to continue deliberations on the matter.

A Supreme Court bench comprising Justices Gavai and Viswanathan scheduled to hear the Tirupati Laddoo controversy, which involves allegations of adulteration in ghee with animal fat.

Previously, A strong message about the separation of religion and politics has been sent by the Supreme Court of India. Discontent expressed by the court regarding public statements made by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu concerning a controversy involving the alleged presence of animal fats in the ghee used to prepare laddoos at the famous Tirupati temple.

The contentious issue, which sparked political and communal debate, was the subject of three petitions. These petitions centered around a report from a Gujarat lab, which claimed that the ghee used for temple offerings contained fish oil, beef tallow, and lard (pig fat).

Concern expressed by the court that the mixing of religion and politics could have far-reaching negative consequences.

The Supreme Court strongly criticized Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu for making public statements about alleged adulteration of ghee used in Tirupati temple laddoos.

Justice BR Gavai questioned Naidu’s decision to address the media when an investigation had already been ordered, noting that such statements could stir political and religious tensions. The court expressed concerns that mixing religion and politics could have serious consequences, especially as no conclusive evidence supported the allegations of animal fat in the ghee.

Justice Gavai remarked,

“You need to respect religious sentiments, What was the need to go to the press immediately?”

Justice KV Viswanathan also criticized Naidu, questioning how the Chief Minister went public without definitive proof. The controversy escalated when Naidu’s allegations were echoed by opposition parties, leading to a political uproar and a ‘purification‘ ceremony at the temple.

The court also scrutinized the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) for its handling of the issue, noting contradictions between Naidu’s claims and the TTD’s position. The court emphasized that public statements made without concrete evidence could compromise the integrity of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe.

Dr. Subramanian Swamy and other petitioners raised concerns about the political and religious implications of Naidu’s statements, while the state’s legal representative, Mukul Rohatgi, dismissed the petitions as politically motivated.
