Supreme Court To Live-Stream All Matters | Beta Version of App In Final Testing Phase

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court of India is set to take a historic step by live streaming all regular cases on a daily basis. This significant move aims to make the court’s workings more transparent and accessible to the general public.

The proceedings of all benches of the Supreme Court were streamed live on Friday (October 18) in a test format.

Until recently, only Constitution Bench matters and certain select cases of public importance, particularly from the Chief Justice’s Court, were available for live streaming. However, the latest initiative will expand this access to include daily proceedings of all cases heard in the Supreme Court. According to sources, an app to facilitate this live-streaming process for all the Supreme Court benches is currently in its final testing phase, and soon, viewers will be able to watch real-time hearings of the highest court in the country.

This development comes under the leadership of the Chief Justice of India, Dr. DY Chandrachud, who has been a strong advocate for increasing transparency in the judicial system. His initiative seeks to make the judicial process more open and comprehensible to the public.

The Chief Justice believes that by live streaming court proceedings, it will enhance public understanding and faith in the judiciary.

This technical advancement will ensure that live streaming is not limited to special cases but becomes a regular feature of the court’s daily operations.

The Supreme Court had already taken a monumental step in 2022 by streaming live hearings for Constitution Bench matters. But this new phase marks the first time that day-to-day hearings of all cases, not just landmark ones, will be considered for regular live-streaming. This shift reflects the Supreme Court’s ongoing commitment to greater accountability and public participation in the judicial process.

The upcoming live streaming of all regular cases will likely have a transformative impact on the Indian legal system. It is expected to make court proceedings more accessible to the public and ensure that justice is not only done but also seen to be done.

In summary, the Supreme Court of India, under the leadership of Chief Justice Dr. DY Chandrachud, is ready to bring about a groundbreaking change by live streaming all regular hearings on a daily basis.

The final preparations are underway, and the app facilitating this process is in its testing phase.

This is a vital step in bringing more transparency to the judicial process, following the successful live streaming of Constitution Bench matters in 2022.
