The case dates back to an FIR registered against him in December 2021 under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The top court gave clear instructions that Majithia must be present for interrogation on March 17, 2025, at 11 a.m. Additionally, if the SIT requires further questioning, he must also appear on March 18 at the same time.
This order came while the Supreme Court was hearing a plea from the Punjab government, which had sought the cancellation of Majithia’s bail. His bail was granted by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on August 10, 2022.
The state government has argued that Majithia is allegedly involved in a serious drug racket and should not remain free while investigations continue.
The case dates back to an FIR registered against him in December 2021 under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
During the hearing, the Supreme Court stressed that Majithia must fully cooperate with the SIT, which is handling the case based on a 2018 report by the anti-drug Special Task Force (STF). The court further scheduled the next hearing on the bail cancellation plea for March 24, 2025.
The outcome of Majithia’s interrogation with the SIT could play a crucial role in determining the court’s decision regarding his bail status.
Majithia is a senior leader of the SAD and the brother-in-law of party president Sukhbir Singh Badal. He has been a central figure in this case and previously spent over five months in Patiala jail before being granted bail.

The Punjab government has accused him of not cooperating with the investigation, a claim that Majithia and his legal team strongly deny. They have repeatedly stated that the case is “politically motivated.”
The Supreme Court’s recent directive highlights the ongoing tension between the Punjab government and the Akali leader. The state government has been pushing for stricter legal action against him, while Majithia maintains that he is being targeted for political reasons.
