NEW DELHI: On 12th June 2025, the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association (SCAORA) released a heartfelt press statement expressing deep sadness and pain over the tragic crash of an Air India flight in Ahmedabad.
The accident, which occurred earlier in the day, caused the loss of many innocent lives and has led to national grief.
In the official statement, SCAORA said,
“The Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association expresses its deepest grief and profound sorrow over the tragic incident involving the Air India flight that crashed earlier today in Ahmedabad.”
They further added condolences to those who lost loved ones in this painful tragedy.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of all those who have lost their lives in this devastating accident.”
The association also expressed their sympathy and gratitude towards the doctors, students, and staff who are treating the victims of this crash.
They said,
“Our thoughts and prayers are also with faculty, students and staff of B.J. Medical College and Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad.”
Calling this a time of national mourning, SCAORA stood in unity with the affected families and requested the concerned authorities to continue their support for the victims and families.
“This is a moment of national mourning. We stand in solidarity with the families affected by this tragedy and urge the concerned authorities to ensure all necessary assistance and support is extended to them during this time.”
Ending the press release with a message of peace and prayer, the association concluded by saying,
“May the departed souls rest in eternal peace.”
This press note was signed by Mr. Nikhil Jain, Honorary Secretary of SCAORA, on behalf of the association.
The organization, which includes leading members like Mr. Vipin Nair (President), Mr. Amit Sharma (Vice President), Mr. Kaustubh Shukla (Joint Secretary), Mr. Aljo K. Joseph (Treasurer), and others, came together to issue this compassionate message on a day of national loss.
Details of the Crash
In a tragic accident, an Air India flight carrying 242 people crashed in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, just minutes after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
The plane, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, was heading to London’s Gatwick Airport when it went down in the Meghani Nagar area of the city.
Thick black smoke rose from the crash site, and emergency teams rushed in immediately.
According to Faiz Ahmed Kidwai, Director General of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Air India flight AI 171 took off at 1:39 p.m. local time.
Just five minutes later, it crashed into a residential locality known as Meghani Nagar. The aircraft was under the command of Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, with First Officer Clive Kundar as the co-pilot.
There were 232 passengers and 12 crew members onboard.
The airline confirmed that the flight had 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, and 1 Canadian national.
