NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday (7th Aug) has expressed its displeasure at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for the delay in starting the trial in the cases registered against former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. The court observed that citing discharge petitions as the reason for the delay is not justifiable.
The bench, comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna, Sanjay Kumar, and R Mahadevan, noted that the details provided by the CBI in its affidavit are “shockingly surprising.” The court pointed out that six judges have either retired or been transferred in the last ten years, but the trial has not commenced yet.
The Supreme Court emphasized that there are guidelines issued by the court, and everyone should follow them. The bench stated that the discharge petitions are also coming to the Supreme Court, and they are being disposed of on their own merits, which should not be an impediment to starting the trial.

The case was brought to the Supreme Court by Undi MLA, K Raghu Ramakrishna Raju, who contended that there has been a delay in the trial of the alleged quid pro quo cases against Jagan Mohan Reddy. Raju sought directions to cancel the bail granted to Jagan Mohan Reddy and to shift the trial to some other state from Telangana.
The Supreme Court has posted the further hearing of the case to the week commencing from November 11.
