New Delhi: The Supreme Court recently granted bail to a Punjab man accused of rape and allegedly threatening the complainant by leveraging his supposed links to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.

As part of his bail petition, the accused presented evidence, including WhatsApp chats and a call record, to claim that a Punjab Police SP-level officer was involved in influencing the case.

The accused argued that he was in a live-in relationship with the complainant, who later developed a relationship with the officer. The accused alleged that the officer used his position to frame him in a false case of rape and threats against the woman.

There is not an iota of evidence to suggest that the petitioner threatened the complainant in the name of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. She concocted the false story to implicate the petitioner under the influence of the… officer serving in the Police Department. The motive behind the false implication is evident from the WhatsApp chats and video recordings, as the officer was in a relationship with the complainant and could not tolerate the petitioner’s relationship with her,

said the petitioner’s advocate, R K Grewal.
