Today, On 1st September, In the Sanatan Dharma Remark Row, The Supreme Court observed, “This court has done many things in the past. It does not mean that we should also do the same thing.” The court will hear Udhayanidhi Stalin’s plea in 2026.

The Supreme Court announced that it would consider Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin’s request to consolidate all FIRs and complaints regarding his controversial “eradicate Sanatan Dharma” comments from 2023 in 2026.
Stalin’s petition was presented before a bench led by Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta. Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, representing Stalin, highlighted that multiple FIRs and complaints had been filed against him.
Rohatgi noted,
“This court has done two things in the past in several cases,”
Justice Nath responded,
“This court has done many things in the past. It does not mean that we should also do the same thing.”
When Rohatgi requested that the case be scheduled for 2026, the bench granted the request.
Earlier, On March 6, the Supreme Court had ruled that no new FIRs could be filed against Stalin without its approval concerning his contentious remarks about “eradicating Sanatan Dharma.”
The court observed that multiple complaints on a single issue were not permissible and extended an interim order exempting Stalin from appearing personally in courts handling the existing FIRs.
The Supreme Court was addressing Stalin’s plea to consolidate these FIRs and transfer the complaints to a single venue for future proceedings.
The court also stated,
“We also deem it appropriate to direct that no further cases will be registered and proceeded without the permission of this court.”
Stalin’s attorney informed the bench about FIRs filed in various locations, including Patna, Jammu, Bengaluru, and Maharashtra, advocating for the cases to be moved to Tamil Nadu, where the alleged incident occurred.
