Today, On 18th October, The Chief Justice of India (CJI) ordered that English essay answer sheets scoring below 15 marks in the Rajasthan Civil Judge Exam must be submitted to the court. This directive follows concerns raised about the evaluation process’s fairness. The CJI stressed the importance of transparency in the grading system.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court, issued a notice in response to petitions challenging the Rajasthan Civil Judge Cadre, 2024 examination.

The Court also ordered the production of answer sheets where candidates were awarded less than 15 marks in the English Essay Writing paper.

A bench comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra heard the petition.

The petitions highlight a significant issue where, despite many candidates performing well overall, a number were assigned disproportionately low scores in the English essay section, receiving between 0 and 15 marks out of a possible 50. This discrepancy raised concerns about fairness and has adversely affected their eligibility for the exam.

During the hearing, the attorney representing one of the petitioners revealed that a candidate who scored 40 out of 100 in the Legal Writing Exam received a score of 0 in the English Essay section. In response, the bench, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud along with Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, stated,

“We will issue notice, returnable on Monday, with the liberty to serve the Registrar General of Rajasthan High Court.”

Additionally, the bench ordered,

“The answer sheets of English essays where candidates received below 15 marks shall be produced before the court on the next day.”

Earlier, when the petitions were brought up for expedited consideration, the Chief Justice had commented that the court would reverse the process if any irregularities were discovered, regardless of the interview completion status.
