Shiv Sena leader Priyanka Chaturvedi criticized influencer Ranveer Allahbadia for controversial remarks on ‘India’s Got Latent,’ urging stricter digital content regulations after the Supreme Court’s condemnation.
New Delhi: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi on Tuesday took a dig at those who trolled her for criticizing influencer Ranveer Allahbadia over his controversial remarks on the YouTube show ‘India’s Got Latent’. Her reaction came shortly after the Supreme Court strongly condemned Allahbadia’s comments during a hearing.
Posting on X, Chaturvedi wrote,
“All these cheap and paid trolls of the celeb influencers who were going after me should now hear what the SC has had to say about the content dished out by such content creators.”
Last week, the Shiv Sena (UBT) MP announced that she would raise Allahbadia’s controversial remarks as a judge on the show with the parliamentary standing committee on information technology.
Expressing concerns about inappropriate content, Chaturvedi emphasized the need for stricter regulations on digital platforms.
“I will be raising the issue regarding the show called India’s Got Latent as a member in the standing committee of IT & Communication for the kind of vulgar, blasphemous content that is passed off as comedy,”
she stated.
She further added,
“We need to set boundaries since these platforms influence young minds and they are passing off absolute rubbish as content. The language used by Ranveer Allahbadia, which was also actively encouraged by others on that ‘comedy panel,’ is unacceptable.”
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court granted Ranveer Allahbadia protection from arrest in multiple FIRs but strongly criticized him for his remarks.
A bench of Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh slammed Allahbadia’s statements, saying,
“…there is something dirty in his mind which has been vomited on the YouTube show.”
Chaturvedi’s firm stance and the Supreme Court’s remarks have intensified the debate over content regulation and accountability of digital creators.
