The Supreme Court adjourned a PIL on Tamil Nadu ministers’ trial transfers after petitioners’ counsel sought two weeks. Justice Surya Kant told the state, “You too have discharged cases yourself. We’ll hear both sides together.”

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday heard a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) related to the transfer of trials against ministers from Tamil Nadu. The matter came up before a bench led by Justice Surya Kant.
At the beginning of the hearing, the counsel appearing for the petitioners informed the court that senior advocate Dama Seshadri Naidu, who was supposed to lead the arguments, was not available.
The counsel said they needed some more time and requested the court to give a short accommodation of two weeks.
It was further submitted that as directed by the court in the last order, an affidavit had already been filed. The petitioners also asked for liberty to file their response.
On the other hand, the state government opposed the claims of the petitioners.
The counsel for the state told the court that the petitioners should first clarify their
“false claim of 100 pending PC Act cases.”
Justice Surya Kant intervened at this point and made a remark directed towards the state.
He said,
“You too have discharged cases yourself. We’ll hear both sides together.”
After hearing the parties, the Supreme Court decided not to proceed immediately and granted an adjournment in the matter.
In summary, the court has agreed to hear both sides in detail after two weeks, giving time for the petitioners to respond and for the state to clarify its stand on the pending corruption cases claim.
