NEW DELHI: Today(on 6th May), Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has taken his case to the Supreme Court after the Jharkhand High Court rejected his bail plea in a money laundering case related to an alleged land scam. Soren is seeking an urgent listing of the matter and has approached the apex court for relief.
The bench, consisting of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, has directed senior advocate Kapil Sibal, who is representing Soren, to submit an email regarding the request. The bench has assured that it will examine the matter.
The Jharkhand High Court had previously dismissed Soren’s writ petition challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and denied him bail. However, it granted him permission to attend the last rites of his uncle on May 6, but under police custody.
Soren was arrested by the ED on January 31 in connection with a money laundering case involving an alleged land fraud. Currently, he is in judicial custody at the Birsa Munda Central Jail in Ranchi.
Following his 13-day detention by the ED, Soren was transferred to the Birsa Munda Central Jail on February 15. The case has attracted significant attention, with Soren’s supporters and critics closely following the developments.

The former Chief Minister’s move to approach the Supreme Court reflects his determination to fight the charges against him and seek legal recourse. By taking the matter to the apex court, Soren aims to present his case and secure bail, allowing him to defend himself outside of judicial custody.
In response to Soren’s plea, the Supreme Court bench has requested an email from his legal representative, Kapil Sibal. This email will provide detailed information regarding the urgency of the matter and the reasons for seeking an immediate listing. The bench has assured that it will examine the email and consider the request accordingly.
The rejection of Soren’s bail plea by the Jharkhand High Court has further. The High Court’s decision has prevented Soren from securing his release from judicial custody, adding to the complexities of the case. However, the court did grant him permission to attend his uncle’s last rites, albeit under police custody.
