On the occasion of the Karwa Chauth festival, the Supreme Court of India has granted special permission to its female employees to wear traditional attire while attending office on Thursday, 10th October 2025.

This exemption comes as a deviation from the prescribed office uniform, as officially announced in a circular issued by the Registry.

According to the circular,

“On the occasion of Karwa Chauth festival, the Competent Authority has been pleased to accede to the request received on behalf of female employees of the Registry, and to permit them to attend the office in traditional sober clothes on 10th October, 2025 in place of the prescribed uniform.”

The decision reflects the Supreme Court’s acknowledgment of cultural practices and festivals celebrated across India, emphasizing inclusivity and respect for traditions even within professional environments.

Female staff members will have the opportunity to observe the Karwa Chauth festival while fulfilling their official duties without compromising on their cultural practices.

The circular was formally signed off by the Deputy Registrar with the note “Sd/- Deputy Registrar,” and a copy of the circular was circulated to “All concerned” within the Supreme Court administration.

This move by the Supreme Court is seen as a positive step towards balancing professional protocols with cultural observances, ensuring that employees can partake in important religious and social festivities comfortably.

By allowing traditional clothing for a day, the Supreme Court sets a precedent for other government offices, potentially inspiring similar gestures in recognition of India’s diverse cultural practices.
