Supreme Court criticizes Madhya Pradesh minister Vijay Shah for his remarks against Colonel Sofiya Qureshi. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) will now probe the FIR filed against him.

New Delhi, May 19 – The Supreme Court of India strongly criticised Madhya Pradesh minister Vijay Shah on Monday for his controversial remarks made against Colonel Sofiya Qureshi.

The top court has now ordered the formation of a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to thoroughly investigate the FIR filed against him.

The matter was heard by a bench consisting of Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh.

During the hearing, the judges informed the minister that they had personally seen video footage of him making the remarks as well as his public apology.

The bench expressed serious doubts over the sincerity of the apology, questioning whether it was a genuine act of regret or just a way to escape legal consequences.

Justice Surya Kant stated,

“The entire nation was in shame due to the comments… We saw your videos, you were on the verge of using very filthy language but somehow better sense prevailed or you did not find suitable words. You should be shameful. Entire country is proud of our Army and you made this statement.”

The bench also pointedly remarked,

“We saw your videos where you made the remarks and your apology and wondered if they were crocodile tears or an attempt to wriggle out of the legal proceedings.”

The Supreme Court’s sharp observations highlight the seriousness of the matter, especially since the comments were made against a decorated officer of the Indian Army.

The Court reminded the minister of the deep respect the country holds for its armed forces and how his remarks have brought embarrassment on a national level.

By directing the constitution of a Special Investigation Team, the apex court has ensured that an impartial and thorough probe will be conducted into the incident.

The SIT will now look into all the details of the case, including the content of the videos and the nature of the remarks made by the minister.

The Court’s intervention sends a clear message about the responsibility public figures hold and the consequences of making derogatory statements, particularly against members of the Indian armed forces.
