The benches chaired by the Chief Justice, Justice B R Gavai, and Justice Surya Kant will hear fresh petitions stemming from letters submitted by citizens as well as new PILs.
In addition to handling letter petitions and PILs, the CJI-led bench will cover a wide range of issues, including social justice matters, disputes concerning the elections of the President, Vice President, and other elections involving Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), as well as habeas corpus cases and arbitration issues.
The benches led by Justice Surya Kant will also address election-related petitions.
Former Chief Justice U U Lalit had assigned PILs to all benches, a practice that was halted by his successor, D Y Chandrachud.
The new roster provides subject-wise case allocations for 16 senior judges who will preside over various benches.
Justice JB Pardiwala, who previously shared a bench with former CJI Chandrachud, will now handle both direct and indirect tax matters, in addition to ordinary civil cases.
Alongside the Chief Justice and the two senior-most judges, the remaining 13 judges include Justices Hrishikesh Roy, AS Oka, Vikram Nath, JK Maheshwari, BV Nagarathna, CT Ravikumar, MM Sundresh, Bela M Trivedi, PS Narasimha, Sudhanshu Dhulia, J B Pardiwala, Dipankar Datta, and Pankaj Mithal.
