Chief Justice of Australia, Stephen Gageler, visited the Supreme Court of India today, joining CJI BR Gavai, Justice Vinod Chandran, and Justice NV Anjaria. SG Tushar Mehta said, “Current visit is too short, longer stay would allow us to host across India.”

Chief Justice of Australia, Stephen Gageler, visited the Supreme Court of India today and was present in Court 1 along with Chief Justice of India BR Gavai, Justice Vinod Chandran, and Justice NV Anjaria.
During the session, Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi recalled that he had visited Australia in 2015 while serving as Attorney General. He said that his visit was part of the Indo-Australian Legal Forum, and he had also visited the High Court of Australia during that time.
CJI BR Gavai pointed out that Solicitor General Tushar Mehta was also present during Rohatgi’s visit, noting that Justice Gageler had been serving as the Solicitor General of Australia at that time.
Speaking about the current visit, SG Tushar Mehta said,
“This current visit is too short, adding that a longer stay would allow them to host Justice Gageler across the length and breadth of India, showcasing its beauty, diverse cuisine, and culture.”
The visit reflects the growing legal cooperation between India and Australia and provides an opportunity for both countries to share experiences in judicial practices and legal frameworks.
Justice Gageler’s presence in India is seen as an important step in strengthening bilateral legal ties and promoting exchanges in legal education, court management, and judicial processes.
