In the previous hearing, the bench decided to adjourn the case on the joint request of the parties involved. This decision came after noting that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had submitted a status report regarding allegations of a paper leak.

The Centre, in its affidavit, stated that an extensive data analysis conducted by IIT-Madras revealed no signs of widespread malpractice or localized advantages leading to unusually high scores in the NEET-UG examination held on May 5 this year.

“Students have generally achieved higher marks, particularly in the 550 to 720 range, across various cities and exam centers. This improvement is linked to a 25% reduction in the syllabus.”

-said the Centre.

The affidavit further mentioned that candidates achieving high marks were spread across multiple cities and centres, indicating a very “less likelihood of malpractice.”

IIT-Madras experts conducted a detailed analysis using parameters like marks distribution, city-wise and centre-wise rank distribution, and the spread of candidates over a range. Their findings showed

“no abnormality,”

– the affidavit reported.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to fully disclose the nature of the paper leak, specifying the locations where the leaks occurred and the time gap between the leak and the examination. Additionally, the court requested the CBI to file a status report detailing the current status of the investigation and the materials gathered during the probe.
