According to the Delhi Police, the incident took place earlier in the day while a group of undertrial prisoners from Tihar Jail No. 8 were waiting in the Saket Court lock-up for their court hearings.

NEW DELHI: In a shocking incident at Delhi’s Saket District Court, an undertrial prisoner named Aman was killed inside the court lockup by two fellow inmates on Thursday. The murder reportedly stemmed from an old enmity between the prisoners.

The attack occurred when several prisoners were brought to the court for their scheduled hearings. While waiting inside the lock-up area, a fight broke out among three of them—Aman, Jitender, and Jaidev. During the scuffle, Aman was strangled and severely injured.

According to the Delhi Police, the incident took place earlier in the day while a group of undertrial prisoners from Tihar Jail No. 8 were waiting in the Saket Court lock-up for their court hearings.

The police confirmed that:

“The two fellow inmates, also undertrials lodged in Tihar Jail No. 8, attacked Aman while awaiting court proceedings.”

Aman was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. The police are treating this as a case of murder, and an FIR has been registered.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the attack was linked to a previous dispute between Aman and the attackers. In 2024, Aman had allegedly stabbed Jitender and his brother in a knife attack, which seems to have led to this fatal act of revenge.

The police are continuing their investigation to fully understand the motive behind the assault.

Reacting strongly to the incident, Bar Association President Anil Basoya called the event extremely serious and condemned the lack of security inside the court premises.

He stated:

“This is a condemnable incident. It raises serious questions about the court’s security. A fight broke out between three inmates. No weapon was involved. Aman’s head hit the wall, and that’s how he died. The police are doing a detailed investigation. Things are normal now.”

His remarks indicate that even though no external weapons were used, lack of supervision and crowd control may have allowed the brawl to turn deadly.

This is not the first time violence has erupted inside the Saket court premises. In April 2023, a shocking incident took place where a suspended lawyer named Kameshwar Kumar Singh, aged 49, allegedly opened fire at a woman named M Radha, aged 42, inside the court complex.

“In April 2023, shots rang out for close to a minute in the same court complex as a suspended lawyer chased a woman and allegedly fired multiple times at her, before fleeing on his scooter.”

Radha sustained bullet injuries—two bullets grazed her left abdomen and right arm. A lawyer’s clerk also suffered a gunshot wound on his right arm during the chaos.

A video of the incident quickly circulated online and showed the terrifying moment:

“A video of the incident showed Singh training his pistol at Radha on the stairs leading up to the lawyers’ block and shooting several rounds at her, even as the woman ran screaming.”

The attacker then fled the scene on his scooter, but police soon arrested him.

“The lawyer, Kameshwar Kumar Singh, 49, was later arrested from his brother’s home in Faridabad.”

According to Delhi Police, the shooting stemmed from a personal dispute between Singh and Radha. The lawyer had filed a complaint claiming that Radha had cheated him out of Rs. 25 lakh.

“According to the police, the motive appeared to be personal enmity. The suspended lawyer had filed a case alleging the woman had cheated him out of Rs 25 lakh.”
