In the Amit Shah defamation case, Rahul Gandhi’s lawyer completed the cross-examination of a witness at the MP-MLA Court in Sultanpur. The court scheduled the next round of witness cross-examination for October 9, continuing the legal proceedings.
The lawyer representing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi concluded the cross-examination of a witness in the defamation case against him.
This case stems from remarks Gandhi made about Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the Karnataka Assembly election campaign.
The proceedings are taking place in the MP-MLA Court in Sultanpur.
Gandhi’s attorney will continue with the cross-examination of the second witness on October 9.
Kashi Prasad Shukla, Gandhi’s lawyer, confirmed that the cross-examination of Anil Mishra who resides in Pitambarpur Kala village and is part of the Kotwali Dehat police jurisdiction was completed on Tuesday.
The next witness, Ram Chandra Dubey, is scheduled for cross-examination on October 9.
This legal matter dates back to 2018, when Mishra filed a defamation suit against Gandhi, claiming that he made inappropriate comments about Shah during the election campaign.
In December 2023, the MP-MLA court issued a warrant for Gandhi’s arrest. He surrendered to the court in February 2024 and was granted bail on two sureties of Rs.25,000 each.
Earlier, On July 26, he provided his statement in court, asserting his innocence and alleging that the case is part of a political conspiracy against him.
During the 2018 Karnataka Assembly election campaign, Rahul Gandhi strongly attacked BJP president Amit Shah by calling him a “murder accused.”
He remarked that people in India often forget that the BJP chief had faced such allegations. Rahul added that Shah “has been accused of murder” and therefore “does not have much credibility.”
