Bengaluru: The sleaze video scandal allegedly involving Member of Parliament Prajwal Revanna has taken an unexpected turn. On Thursday, the National Commission for Women (NCW) reported a significant development: a woman has come forward accusing three men of coercing her into filing a baseless complaint.

According to the NCW’s press release, the woman has sought protection for herself and her family against three individuals who posed as police officers. She reported that these men issued severe threats and made repeated calls to her from various numbers.

The press release detailed the woman’s ordeal:

“One woman approached the commission to register a complaint against three individuals, dressed in civilian clothes, allegedly introduced themselves as Karnataka police and forced her to file a false complaint in this case. She stated that she was getting calls from random phone numbers, threatening to file a complaint. It has come to light that this complainant was forced by a group of individuals to file the complaint, under the threat of potential harassment and false implications.”

Furthermore, the NCW has addressed rumors regarding the scale of the scandal. Contrary to claims that 700 women have lodged complaints against Revanna, the commission clarified that no such influx of complaints has been received.

“No survivor came to the commission to register a complaint against the Hassan MP, and according to woman”s complaint the fake SIT officers were threatening the victims that if they didn’t make statements in favor of the State government, they would be charged with prostitution.”

-the NCW confirmed in their statement.

The commission also provided insights into the ongoing investigations in Karnataka. The authorities have shared an action-taken report which reveals that two cases of sexual abuse have been formally registered following survivors’ complaints. Additionally, there is a separate case concerning the alleged abduction of a relative.

This case continues to unfold, with new revelations and official updates bringing more clarity to the complex situation.

The former Chief Minister and JDS state President H.D. Kumaraswamy voiced concerns about the treatment of the victims by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) assigned to the case. He stated,

“The investigating officers are going to the doorsteps of the victims and threatening them. Tell us, isn’t it a fact that the SIT officers are threatening the victims with false prostitution cases against them? Is this how the probe is being conducted?”

These remarks were directed towards Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda during a heated exchange, where Gowda had previously described the incident as the largest sex scandal globally.

Further complicating matters, Kumaraswamy raised questions about the whereabouts and welfare of a woman purportedly rescued from kidnapping, a part of the broader scandal involving Revanna. He challenged the authorities,

“Where have you kept the rescued woman who was kidnapped? Why is she not being produced before the court? Do you support the act of distribution of private videos of the victims?”

In defense, Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara insisted that the SIT was conducting a thorough and effective investigation. He indicated that the state government was treating the matter with utmost seriousness, emphasizing,

“I can’t answer everyone. If they have a complaint against the SIT, let them file it. The investigation is underway and once the report is submitted, all the details will be made available. If the victims are blackmailed over the videos, action would be initiated against the guilty.”

This case continues to unravel, exposing the complexities and the murky interplay of politics and law enforcement in handling sensitive allegations. The community and the nation watch closely, awaiting further developments and hoping for justice and transparency in the proceedings.
