[BREAKING] Plea Against PM Modi, Rahul Gandhi Over 'Defamatory' Remarks On Adani Group Filed In Delhi Court

NEW DELHI: A petition has been filed in a Delhi court seeking to restrain Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi from making allegedly false, fabricated, and misleading speeches and accusations against the Adani Group.

The petitioner, who identifies as a social worker, farmer, and stock market investor, has requested a permanent injunction to prevent both leaders from making defamatory remarks that could impact the Adani Group’s market value and investor interests.

The petition references specific speeches made by both Modi and Gandhi during election rallies. The petitioner claims that their unsubstantiated statements have the potential to cause significant harm to the Adani Group and its investors. In particular, the petition cites a speech by PM Modi in Karimnagar, Telangana, where he allegedly criticized industrialists Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani.

Modi reportedly suggested that the Congress had stopped mentioning Ambani and Adani because they might have been bribed by them, further alleging that cash was transferred to the Congress party in a tempo.

“That such false, fabricated and misleading speech delivered and propagated by the Defendant No. 1 (Rahul Gandhi) while twisting about the loan write-off and the allegations leveled by the defendant No. 2 (PM Modi) without any basis and justification against the Industrialists has the potential to cause confusion among the general investors who invest in the Indian Stock Market and the Plaintiff resulting in the high unanticipated volatility in the stock prices of the companies of these industrialists are causing huge losses to the investors and traders which also includes the plaintiff,”

-the plea read.

The petitioner also accuses Rahul Gandhi of making false statements regarding the alleged waiving of loans by the Central Government amounting to Rs. 15-16 lakh crore for a few industrialists, including Gautam Adani. The petitioner contends that Gandhi’s speech was intended to create confusion and damage the Adani Group’s reputation among the general public and investors.

That such negative campaign against industrialists causes unanticipated high volatility in the stock market causing huge loss to the investors including the plaintiff as he himself is an investor and shareholder in a few listed companies of the Adani Group.

The petition specifically references Gandhi’s speech on March 3 in Madhya Pradesh, where he said,

“Get the list of farmers you will see 73% of the farmers belong to Dalit, Tribals, and Backward groups out of which few would be the General Caste poor people, now BJP government in the last 10 years have waived 16 Lakh Crore rupees of 2 biggest billionaires. Do you understand how much is the 16 Lakh crores? Because it is such a huge number that you will say what it is, guess, I will tell to run MNREGA in a year it takes 65,000 crore so did you understand 16 Lakh crore means the cost of NREGA for 20 years right. Now Narendra Modi has given 16 Lakh Crore while waving their loans means these industrialists had taken loan from Government Banks, those money comes from GST from the pockets of you people. When you go to buy a Jacket you pay 18% GST, if Adani will buy the same jacket he too would pay 18% so whose money is this?…How much of farmers’ loan they have waived? Not even one, I am saying just one thing brother if you can waive their 16 Lakh Crore then you can also waive here 1 Lakh Crore then what is the big mistake in that?…”

Similarly, PM Modi, during a campaign speech in Telangana, accused Congress of being bribed by Ambani and Adani, implying illicit money transfers to the party.

The suit seeks a permanent injunction to prevent Gandhi and Modi from making unsubstantiated statements that could harm the Adani Group’s market value and investor interests.

“That such kinds of false, fabricated and misleading speeches have a negative impact not only on the general public but the image of the nation gets damaged in the eyes of the world. This can have negative repercussions for the nation like foreign investment getting affected which is detrimental to the financial health of the country. That the large number of the investors and shareholders including the plaintiffs needs the protection from the Hon’ble court from unanticipated volatility in the stock market because of the negative campaign of the individuals having vested interest against the Promoter of the Adani Group of Companies Sh. Gautam Adani,”

-the suit read.

The petitioner argues that these speeches and allegations have caused unanticipated volatility in the stock market, leading to significant losses for investors, including the petitioner himself, who holds shares in several Adani Group companies.

The court is being asked to protect the interests of investors and prevent further harm caused by what the petitioner describes as a negative campaign against the Adani Group.
