Gujarat: The Gujarat Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a man on Friday for allegedly attempting to bribe a labour court judge with Rs 35,000 during a hearing in Godhra, Panchmahal district.

According to ACB Inspector RB Prajapati, the accused, Bapu Solanki from Virpur taluka in Mahisagar district, entered the courtroom and placed a sealed cover on Judge HA Maka’s table.

Upon questioning, Solanki claimed he was instructed to deliver the cover but was unaware of its contents or who had sent it.

The judge ordered the staff to open the cover, revealing Rs 35,000 in cash. Following this, court officials contacted the ACB, leading to Solanki’s arrest under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Inspector Prajapati mentioned that Solanki remains uncooperative and has yet to disclose further details. Although he is involved in a court case, there was no related hearing that day. He also alleges he cannot recall the person who asked him to deliver the cover. The investigation is ongoing.

In a separate incident earlier this month, the state ACB arrested Dinesh Kubavat, a police inspector at the Marine Police Station in Dholai port, Navsari district. Kubavat allegedly demanded and accepted an Apple iPhone 16 Pro worth Rs1.44 lakh as a bribe from a fuel dealer.

According to an ACB official, Kubavat was caught red-handed while accepting the phone from the complainant, a licensed Light Diesel Oil (LDO) dealer who supplies fuel to boat owners at Dholai port.

Kubavat had summoned the dealer to the police station, requesting business documents. During the meeting, he allegedly threatened to shut down the dealer’s business unless he provided the bribe. The Navsari ACB set up a trap and arrested Kubavat in his office.
