A UP court labelled “Love Jihad” as a significant threat to national unity while sentencing 25-year-old Mohammad Alim to life imprisonment. Alim convicted of raping and threatening a student after allegedly falsifying his identity. The court’s remarks highlight the controversial issue surrounding “Love Jihad,” adding fuel to the ongoing debate.
Bareilly: A local court observed that the objective of “love jihad” is to assert dominance by certain anti-social elements of a particular religion through demographic warfare and international conspiracy.
Additional District Judge (Fast Track Court) Ravi Kumar Diwakar stated that,
“Hindu girls are being lured into relationships for illegal conversions, aiming to create conditions similar to those in Pakistan and Bangladesh.”
Diwakar further noted that illegal conversions present a serious threat to the unity, integrity, and sovereignty of India.

He made these remarks while hearing a case involving marriage under false identities, relationships, and abortion.
The remarks made by Additional District Judge Ravi Kumar Diwakar while sentencing 25-year-old Mohammad Alim to life imprisonment for raping and threatening a student after falsifying his identity. Alim’s 65-year-old father also sentenced to two years in prison for aiding him in the crimes.
The case filed by a 20-year-old woman who was pursuing a computer course in the city.
Judge Diwakar warned of “a conspiracy to create conditions similar to those in Pakistan and Bangladesh.”
Alim, a resident of Jadaunpur village in the Devarnia area, deceived the woman by posing as ‘Anand.’ The court, in its ruling, ordered copies to be sent to the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police.
The court highlighted that conversions are being carried out through psychological pressure and inducements such as marriage and jobs, raising concerns about possible foreign funding. It warned that if this issue is not addressed promptly, it could have severe consequences.

The court also referenced the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act, 2021, which enacted to combat illegal conversions through “Love Jihad.”
It emphasized,
“The Constitution grants every individual the fundamental right to practice and propagate their religion, and this personal freedom cannot be compromised through illegal conversions facilitated by ‘Love Jihad.'”
