Uttar Pradesh: The Ghaziabad Bar Association finds itself at a crossroads, as it has split into two factions following a contentious lathicharge incident involving lawyers in the District Judge’s court.
On Monday, the Bar Association’s President and Secretary announced their decision to call off the ongoing strike.
This decision led to the strike being officially withdrawn on Tuesday morning, allowing normal court proceedings to resume for approximately two hours.
However, the situation took a dramatic turn when one faction of lawyers declared a renewed strike and created unrest within the court premises.
Advocates Protest Against Strike Withdrawal
The decision to withdraw the strike on the basis of mere assurances was met with significant resistance. Advocates voiced their dissent on Tuesday, raising slogans against Bar Association President Deepak Sharma and Secretary Amit Nehra.
“Effigies of the Bar President were burned in protest,” showcasing the intensity of the discontent.
The disgruntled lawyers expressed their displeasure by shutting down the lawyers’ chambers, emphasizing their demand for the dismissal of the District Judge. According to the protesting lawyers, the strike would persist until their demand was met.
“The strike in Ghaziabad will continue until the District Judge is dismissed,”
-they declared while uniting on a common platform to intensify their protest.
Renewed Strike and Escalation
As tensions escalated, lawyers roamed around the court premises, chanting slogans against the Bar Association leadership.
“The decision of the District Bar Association President and Secretary to go on strike was wrong,”
-they asserted, indicating a breach of trust within the association’s ranks.
Effigies of President Deepak Sharma and Secretary Amit Nehra were once again set aflame, while their banners were defaced with ink.
The protesting lawyers announced an indefinite strike, signaling their unwavering stance.
“All the lawyers closed their chambers and joined the strike,”
-demonstrating a collective effort to pressure the administration into meeting their demands.
Leadership Responds Amid Chaos
When approached for his comments, District Bar Association President Deepak Sharma accused certain individuals of acting against the collective interests of the lawyers.
“Some people are playing with the interests of the lawyers for their own selfish interests,”
-he remarked.
Despite the chaos, Sharma maintained his solidarity with the legal fraternity, affirming,
“I am with my fellow lawyers. Whatever they say will be done.”
Conclusion
The ongoing discord within the Ghaziabad Bar Association reflects deep-seated frustration among its members over unresolved grievances. While one faction calls for resolution through dialogue, the other demands immediate action.
The indefinite strike, coupled with the escalating protests, underscores the urgency of addressing the lawyers’ concerns to restore normalcy in the court.
