Kapil Sibal, a Rajya Sabha MP, recently spoke about his personal spirituality and views on current political events, particularly focusing on the construction of the Ram Mandir and the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) approach to it. Sibal, expressing his devotion to Lord Ram, stated,
“I have Ram in my heart. I don’t need to show off. What I say to you is from my heart because I do not care about all these things. If Ram is in my heart and Ram has guided me throughout my journey, it means that I have done something right.”
His comments came in response to inquiries about his attendance at the upcoming Ram Lalla consecration ceremony in Ayodhya on January 22. In addition to his comments on the Ram Mandir, Sibal also discussed recent criminal bills passed in Parliament. He raised concerns about their nature and the process of their enactment, highlighting the suspension of numerous parliamentarians and the lack of consultation with legal experts during the bill’s formulation. Sibal remarked on the lack of ‘Indian-ness’ in these bills, which he views as mere translations of existing laws, more stringent than colonial-era legislations.

Furthermore, a viral post on social media claimed that Sibal had said he would self-immolate before the construction of the Ram Mandir. Sibal has clarified that this post is false and criticized the level to which political debate has fallen in the country. He remarked on the viral post, stating that it is being spread on social media and reflects the degraded level of political discourse in India. Sibal had represented the Sunni Waqf Board in the Ayodhya Ram Mandir case when he was a Rajya Sabha MP for the Congress party.
