On 27th February: Jaya Prada, a distinguished actress and former Member of Parliament, has been declared “absconding” by a special court due to her failure to attend hearings in cases related to election code violations during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Despite receiving seven non-bailable warrants, she has not appeared before the court, prompting the issuance of a directive for her compulsory appearance by March 6.

UTTAR PRADESH: On 27th February, Jaya Prada, the acclaimed actress-turned-politician and former Member of Parliament (MP), has been labeled “absconding” by a special court. This decision came as a result of her continuous absence from court hearings related to allegations of election code conduct violations during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the time, Jaya Prada’s failure to adhere to court summonses has led to a serious turn of events.

The MP MLA Special Court, presided over by judge Shobhit Bansal, has now directed the Superintendent of Police to form a special team under a Deputy SP’s leadership to ensure her presence in court by March 6.

Despite the court issuing non-bailable warrants against her on seven occasions, Jaya Prada’s non-compliance has prompted the MP MLA special court, under the guidance of Judge Shobhit Bansal, to escalate measures. The court has ordered the Superintendent of Police to assemble a dedicated team, headed by a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), to ensure Jaya Prada’s court appearance by no later than March 6.

On this, Tiwari said, judge Shobhit Bansal took a tough stance and declared Jaya Prada as an absconder under Section 82 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC)

To enforce attendance of individuals who evade court proceedings, especially in cases involving election-related misconduct. The special court’s proclamation is a testament to the judiciary’s determination to uphold electoral integrity and accountability among public figures.

Jaya Prada’s journey from the silver screen to the political arena has been nothing short of remarkable. With an illustrious career in both the Hindi and Telugu film industries, she transitioned into politics in 1994 by joining the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). Her political career further evolved as she served as a Rajya Sabha MP and later as a Lok Sabha MP before joining the BJP in 2019.
