Supreme Court lawyer Vishnu Shankar Jain, also the petitioner, stated that the central government, Uttar Pradesh government, Masjid Committee, and Sambhal District Magistrate (DM) were named as parties in the case.

Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh: On Tuesday(Nov 19), a court-ordered survey of a mosque in Sambhal district was conducted following a petition alleging that the structure was originally the site of an ancient Hindu temple.

Supreme Court lawyer Vishnu Shankar Jain, also the petitioner, stated that the central government, Uttar Pradesh government, Masjid Committee, and Sambhal District Magistrate (DM) were named as parties in the case.

Sambhal DM Rajendra Pensia confirmed that the survey, carried out by an advocate commissioner in the presence of both parties, adhered to the court’s directive.

“Our role was limited to providing security. The survey proceedings have been completed, and the report will be submitted to the court. Further steps, if any, will be decided by the court,”

he said.

Earlier, Jain alleged that Mughal emperor Babar had partially demolished the temple in 1529. He also claimed on X that Sambhal is believed to be the site of the Kalki avatar’s advent.

“The Civil Court in Sambhal, based on my petition, ordered a survey of the alleged Jama Masjid, known as Hari Har Mandir,”

he wrote.

Jain highlighted that the area is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and stated,

“No encroachments are allowed in ASI-protected zones. Many Hindu temple symbols can still be found there.”

He added that the Civil Judge (Senior Division) of Sambhal directed the advocate commissioner to use video and photography for the survey and submit a report to the court.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Zia Ur Rehman Barq expressed strong objections to the developments.

“The Jama Masjid of Sambhal is a historical mosque. As per the Supreme Court’s 1991 ruling, religious structures as they were in 1947 must remain unchanged,” Barq said.

He accused certain individuals of attempting to disturb the country’s harmony and stated,

“The mosque was, is, and will remain a mosque. The advocate commission has prepared its report, and there is no basis for objection regarding the site.”
