Kanpur, UP: A High court lawyer became the target of a sophisticated honeytrap scheme by a young woman and her two accomplices, who local authorities have since arrested.

DCP South, Ankita Sharma, revealed that the lawyer initially connected with a woman named Nancy Khan through popular dating apps Tinder and Bumble. What started as a casual online interaction soon developed into regular meetups. The woman eventually coaxed the lawyer into meeting at a hotel, where she secretly recorded an explicit video of him.

Following the incident, the lawyer was blackmailed and had his SUV stolen as the woman fled. Threatened with the release of the explicit video, he was forced to agree to a payment of Rs. 5 lakh. However, he later contacted the police, resulting in a sting operation in the Kidwai Nagar area, where the suspects were apprehended.

The individuals, identified as Tanu Singh (23), Saurabh Dutt (25), and Sanjog Jaiswal (26), are from various parts of Prayagraj. Singh, who used multiple aliases like Nancy and Harshita, is accused of luring victims through dating apps and then blackmailing them.

The police filed an FIR under sections 319(2) (cheating by personation), 318(4) (cheating and dishonesty), and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with the relevant sections of the Information Technology Act.

Despite the threats, the lawyer refrained from filing an FIR in his hometown of Prayagraj due to concerns about social stigma. It was only after meeting in Kanpur, where the societal pressures felt less intense, that he decided to approach the police, ultimately leading to the exposure of the racket.
