Mukhtar Ansari’s son, Umar Ansari, has moved the Allahabad High Court seeking bail in a criminal case. He is accused of submitting forged documents, including his absconding mother’s signature, to reclaim property seized under the Gangster Act.

Umar Ansari, the younger son of former gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, has submitted a bail application to the Allahabad High Court. He is seeking release while a criminal case against him is ongoing, in which he is accused of using forged documents.

The case was initiated at the Mohammadabad police station in Ghazipur, based on allegations that he utilized counterfeit documents and his mother Afsha Ansari’s signature to reclaim property that had been confiscated under the Gangster Act.

Recently, police apprehended Ansari in Lucknow in connection with this matter and subsequently detained him.

Following the rejection of his bail application by the lower court, Umar approached the high court, asking for an order to grant him bail while the trial is ongoing.

He was arrested because in the first week of August 2025 he submitted a petition before the court seeking release of property that had earlier been seized under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act.

During scrutiny of the documents attached with this petition, officials found that the papers carried a forged signature of his mother, Afsa (also known as Afshan) Ansari, who is still on the run and has a cash reward of Rs.50,000 declared against her.

The late Mukhtar Ansari’s properties were seized under the Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act. He passed away due to a cardiac arrest on March 28, 2024. Mukhtar had previously been sentenced to ten years in prison for the 2005 murder of a BJP MLA and received a life sentence for securing an arms license through forged documents.

Umar’s elder brother, Abbas Ansari, was removed from the Uttar Pradesh Assembly after being convicted for hate speech and currently faces several ongoing criminal cases.
