Popular Tamil and Telugu actor Srikanth has been sent to judicial custody by a Chennai court in a cocaine-related case. The court has ordered that he remain in custody till July 7 as the investigation continues.

Popular Tamil and Telugu film actor Srikanth has been placed in judicial custody until July 7 by a Chennai court in connection with a cocaine-related case.

The actor was interrogated for several hours at the Nungambakkam police station before his formal arrest.

According to police sources, Srikanth is accused of purchasing and using cocaine and maintaining connections with known drug suppliers. His blood samples were sent for testing, and reports allegedly confirmed drug use.

The actor was reportedly presented before a magistrate at the magistrate’s residence. As part of the process, he was first taken to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for a medical examination.

Afterward, Srikanth was brought before Magistrate Dhayalan of the 14th Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Egmore. The hearing took place at the magistrate’s residence in the Judicial Officers’ Quarters in the Egmore area of Chennai. He was represented by his advocate, Vignesh Ramanadhan, during the proceedings.

This case is part of a larger crackdown on a drug network that was uncovered following a recent pub brawl involving a former AIADMK member.

His arrest led investigators to a series of other suspects, ultimately resulting in Srikanth’s arrest.

Following this, he was interrogated at the Nungambakkam Police Station for over nine hours. During the questioning, police collected a blood sample from the actor, which later tested positive for narcotic substances.

A well-known figure in South Indian cinema, Srikanth made his debut in 2002 with Roja Kootam and has appeared in nearly 70 films, including significant roles in Nanban, the Tamil remake of the Bollywood hit Three Idiots, directed by Shankar. So far, there has been no official statement from Srikanth’s legal team.

His arrest comes amid an increase in drug seizures and investigations related to narcotics in Tamil Nadu.

Recently, this issue prompted sharp political reactions, with opposition parties AIADMK and BJP criticizing the ruling DMK for a perceived breakdown in law and order.

The DMK has firmly rejected these claims, asserting that the police actions demonstrate proactive enforcement.

The Tamil Nadu Police maintain that the state has one of the lowest rates of drug use in the country, according to NCRB data, and that rigorous measures are being taken against both dealers and users.
