New Delhi: A Delhi court on Wednesday postponed its decision on the regular bail plea of Lok Sabha MP Sheikh Abdul Rashid, also known as Engineer Rashid, until September 11.

Rashid currently in jail in connection with a 2017 terror-funding case.

Engineer Rashid, who defeated former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah in the recent Lok Sabha elections from Baramulla, has been in custody since 2019. He arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Additional Sessions Judge Chander Jit Singh, originally set to rule on Rashid’s bail plea on Wednesday, deferred the matter, citing that the order was not yet prepared.

The court previously heard arguments in a closed-door session on August 28 and reserved its decision.

Rashid’s name surfaced during an NIA investigation into Kashmiri businessman Zahoor Watali, who accused of financing terror groups and separatists in Kashmir. The NIA filed a chargesheet against several individuals, including Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik, Lashkar-e-Taiba founder Hafiz Saeed, and Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin.

Yasin Malik later sentenced to life imprisonment in 2022 after pleading guilty to the charges. Rashid, meanwhile, remains in Tihar Jail, having been granted custody parole on July 5 to take the oath of office following his electoral victory.
