New Delhi: In a recent decision, Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court granted AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal permission to travel to the United States from November 2 to 15. Maliwal, who faces scrutiny over alleged recruitment irregularities during her tenure as Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), sought court approval to attend the 79th United Nations General Assembly session in New York from November 4 to 8 and visit her ailing sister.
Maliwal’s request was filed on the grounds of official commitments and personal obligations, balancing her need to fulfill her duties at the international conference with family responsibilities. Maliwal, currently out on bail, stated the importance of representing India at the assembly and visiting her sister, whose health has been a growing concern.
The court’s decision allows Maliwal temporary relief amid the ongoing investigation related to her time with the DCW. Despite the charges, the court determined that Maliwal’s participation in the UN Assembly session was a valid reason for travel and granted her the requested time abroad.
