Mumbai: A specialized court in Mumbai on Monday ordered police custody until May 8 for three individuals apprehended following a shooting incident at the residence of Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, located in the upscale Bandra neighbourhood.
The individuals, identified as Vicky Gupta, 24, Sagar Pal, 21, and Anuj Thapan, 32, were placed in police custody by Special MCOCA Judge A.M. Patil. In contrast, Sonu Kumar Chander Bishnoi, 37, sent to judicial custody due to medical reasons.
Following the shooting incident, law enforcement quickly mobilized to apprehend those involved. The arrest of three suspects indicates a connection to organized crime, given the involvement of the MCOCA Court, which specifically handles cases related to organized crime networks. “The provisions of the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) were invoked against the alleged shooters, Gupta and Pal, along with Bishnoi and Thapan, who are accused of providing two firearms and ammunition,”
This stringent action follows an incident on April 14, when two individuals on a motorcycle targeted Galaxy Apartment, Khan’s residence in the Bandra area of Mumbai. The attack prompted police to register an attempt to murder case under section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), further complicating the investigation with the involvement of firearms and ammunition, which resulted in additional charges under the Arms Act.
These suspects originally charged under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and The Arms Act. During the closed-door court session, the order for police custody given for Gupta, Pal, and Thapan until May 8, and Bishnoi remanded to judicial custody.
Public Prosecutor Jaisingh Desai emphasized the necessity of police custody for the accused to facilitate a thorough investigation into the conspiracy.
Desai argued,
“Detailed interrogation of the accused is crucial to unravel the underlying conspiracy in this case,”
This legal action follows the April 14 event where two individuals on a motorcycle opened fire at Galaxy Apartment, Khan’s home. The first information report (FIR) registered by the police cited an attempt to murder under section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Gupta and Pal arrested on April 16 from Kutch in Gujarat, while Sonu Bishnoi and Thapan detained from Punjab on April 25.

Anmol Bishnoi, currently residing in Canada and frequently traveling to the USA, purportedly claimed responsibility for the attack in a Facebook post, though police investigations traced the post’s IP address to Portugal.
